Alex Volchek has a bachelor’s in graphic design from Vancouver Island University and has completed the Legal Administration Professional Certificate program from Camosun College in August 2025, in which they graduated on the Dean’s Honour Roll and received the Lisa Woodward Memorial Award.
At GovLaw, Alex assists lawyers and clients in reviewing and formatting documents, legal correspondence, and preparing cases for court. Alex also utilizes their background and experience to design and illustrate promotional material. Outside of work, Alex enjoys drawing, playing video games and learning Mandarin.

Ava DeSouza is currently studying politics and literature at Queen’s University. Over the course of her degree, Ava has worked in communications and marketing roles geared towards the student government and affiliate organizations. Through these she has developed a unique blend of skills and competencies: graphic creation, website design, programming initiatives and engaging in student outreach and serving as the first point of contact.
As Marketing Communications Manager, Ava oversees all aspects of marketing for each organization, including managing The Regulators website, print and digital promotions, and maintaining a substantial Mailchimp list for client outreach, including Lunch ‘n’ Learn Webinar notices, important updates, and upcoming events.

Troy earned his law degree from the University of Windsor, where he was honored with the J.W. Whiteside Award for community service. In 2006, Troy was recognized as the Top Lawyer Under 40 on Vancouver Island.
Troy also held a federally appointed quasi-judicial position as a Member of the Military Police Complaints Commission. He chaired the CBA-BC Municipal Lawyers Section. He actively participates in various professional associations and holds an honorary membership in the Local Government Compliance and Enforcement Association of B.C.

Kismet T. Bhandar is a Partner at Dominion GovLaw LLP. She is a seasoned litigator with 28 years of experience in civil litigation, insurance defence and prosecutions. Known for an approachable and cooperative style, Kismet fosters teamwork with her clients to achieve positive outcomes. She is valued as a mentor and provides valuable insight to clients and colleagues.
Born and raised in Victoria BC, Kismet earned her first degree from Carleton University in Ottawa. She then worked as an assistant English teacher for the Japanese Ministry of Education for two years in Wajima. She returned to Canada and worked as an ESL teacher in colleges in Ottawa and Vancouver, prior to earning her law degree from the University of Victoria.
Kismet is a committed volunteer, currently serving on the CHAS Board of Governors for the Canadian College of Performing Arts since 2021. Previously she served on the YMCA/YWCA board for seven years and Victoria Bar Association for twelve years (President in 2014). She keeps active by taking long walks with friends and their dogs.

Born in Ontario, Zach Currie completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Western Ontario, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree with a specialization in philosophy. He then completed his Juris Doctor degree at the University of Minnesota Law School before returning to live on the West Coast of Canada to complete his articles. He married his wife while living here and is happy to call Vancouver Island his home, a place that splits the geographical difference between his and his wife’s families. Called to the bar in 2024, Zach is happy to find himself beginning his career in the complex and challenging world of public law.
When he isn’t practicing law, Zach enjoys reading and spending time with his family.
